Jim and the FutureSense team advise clients on how to build and sustain their human capital capacity and improve organizational performance by attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining people.

The FUSE Project

For most of his career, Jim has been obsessed with figuring out how to get people at work to “play better in the sandbox” and has always marveled at the reasons why they don’t. His early experiences at summer camp (both as a camper and a counselor), his formal education in childhood psychology and organizational behavior, as well as his time spent coaching sports developed a deep fascination of working with multi-generational groups. The multitude of “Ah-hah!” moments that most all workers realize at some point also fascinates him, especially when different generations put their minds together.

After studying, observing, listening, and even working with his own millennial son, Jim decided it was finally time to put these ideas down on paper — to give others these “ah-hah!” moments and to cultivate what he now sees as the cogenerational workplace™. At first, he found that most research focused on the differences. Jim wants to find the similarities between the generations that ignite creativity, passion, and productivity. The spark of FUSE is itself both a product of and a catalyst for a new way of thinking about work.

FUSE is all about action — we can’t just read the book, we have to do the work. The modern workplace is amazingly diverse yet highly connected. Through opening and expanding conversation about the values, biases, and prejudgements in the workplace, Jim hopes to stimulate mutual understanding between the generations. These fusions will ignite the passion and creativity that will allow for progress and productivity for all who work.
